At first, I was afraid that I would not be able to learn English. However, my fears passed when I started attending Ivana’s classes. She conducts them very pleasantly and clearly explains everything. During my first class the students were frightened that they would have to speak up. After some time, together with different accents, we were even able to joke.

I would never have expected that my life would change so much after taking Ivana’s English class. I had only been in the country for about a month and lacked confidence in my ability to communicate with others in English. She is a kind instructor, but don’t get me wrong, she won’t let you goof around in class, since she knows exactly what to teach and how to teach it. She sets the highest standards of teaching and you just have to follow. You improve your English without struggling, because during class she keeps you participating in the most interesting ways. After 10 months of attending Ivana’s classes, I was able to find a job and pass the EF SET test with C1 advanced without any additional preparation. She created my whole business English knowledge base, which I am using now at work (e.g. specific vocabulary, grammar, how to write formal emails). Ivana’s class was unique in the sense that in addition to being a regular instructive class, we also had lots of fun in terms of exploring interesting topics, watching videos of TED-talks of many great speakers, having multiple group-discussions and in-class games. I learned new things from each class. Ivana made this class very interactive. It was fun talking with my classmates and it also gave me an opportunity to advance my English skills. I can still remember that we used to have fun learning English idioms in class. Last year, I lived in NY for 4 months. Although I used some English in Brazil, speaking in an English speaking country was very different. I had to use English everywhere and in many different situations- in the supermarket, on the subway, at the university.
When I started the class with Ivana, I was worried – because I didn’t speak English very well. As the classes took place, I became more self-confident to speak English with anyone. While attending Ivana’s class for the first time, I was immediately impressed with her ability to lead the class with charisma and a sense of humor so that she engages all her students in learning. I felt encouraged – the class was a new world that I had never experienced. I really enjoyed it and dived in learning English.
I took her English class for over 2 years in order to improve my English. As a non-native speaker, I sometimes had difficulty communicating with co-workers and bosses at work. However, by taking her English class, I was able to learn how to make small talk and understand American culture such as indirect communication. It was essential to build a good relationship with my peers.
Ivana is patient, has a positive attitude and welcomes questions. She always took the time to explain to me and make sure I understood. When I had conversation with classmates during the class, Ivana listened carefully and explained nicely which point I should fix. She helped me practice my pronunciation over and over again. Finally, I was able to improve my pronunciation, especially “TH” and “KW” sounds.
Ivana is open to mentoring her students. As a freelance artist, I really wanted to experience various productions. She encouraged me a lot and her class was very helpful to prepare for the interview, to present my ability. I was able to do internships in New York. Now I am able to pursue my master’s in stage management at Columbia University. Without her, I would not be where I am today.
